Mama Bares: “Once Upon a Playdate” encore concert

If you haven’t had a chance to go to the Hollywood Pantages to see “The King and I,” then you still have time before they leave town. The final performance is January 21, 2017. Make sure you see Fil-Ams Jose Llana as the King and Joan Almedilla as Lady Thiang.

And since Joan Almedilla is in town, that is the perfect reason for the Mama Bares to get back together! I spoke to Deedee Magno Hall via email and she shares details about their gig coming up this week.

G:  Mama Bares is back! How does it feel to be together again?

Deedee: Since Joan Almedilla is in town, currently starring in the national touring company of “The King And I,” we were thrilled to get the Mama Bares together again for an encore performance of “Once Upon A Play Date”!

G: What can people expect from this concert at Catalina? How different will it be from your East West Players show?

Deedee: At the more intimate Catalina Jazz Club/Bar and Grill, our guests will be able to enjoy delicious food and beverages, while we perform familiar songs from our EWP show, as well as a few new ones, including two new guest Papa Bares!

G: We see that the Children’s Hospital is a benefactor of the concert. Can you tell us why the partnership?

Deedee: As mothers, our children’s health and happiness [are] most important to us. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is a perfect partnership.

G: Why do people have to come out to support this concert?

Deedee: Before we were moms, we were performers. It’s not easy to juggle a career and parenting, but it’s what we love to do, and it’s important to show our children that with faith, hard work, dedication, and support from family and friends, you can do anything! Please come to our play date for music, fun, songs and stories, and help to support Children’s Hospital Los Angeles!

Make sure to get tickets to Mama Bares: “Once Upon A Playdate” on Monday, January 16, happening at the Catalina Bar & Grill, 6725 W. Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028. Proceeds will benefit the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. For Reservations, call 323-466-2210 or visit www.catalinajazzclub.com.
