Asian Americans’ votes matter

ASIAN Americans and Pacific Islanders make up more than 5 percent of the total population of the United States. Approximately, there are 7 million AAPIs who are eligible to cast their votes in the upcoming 2008 US Presidential elections and 3.5 million have already registered to vote. These figures are crucial as these numbers can play a key role for what the outcome will be.  However, with all the hype in the pre-election period, 34 percent of the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders still remain undecided.
AAPIs are the nation’s fastest growing group, expected to reach 213 percent or to 33.4 million by 2050. This means that by the following years the voting power of AAPIs will grow in the succeeding years and will be more influential in the future elections.  These numbers are not just for statistical purposes – these figures validates the fact that AAPIs are a great part of the electoral equation.
The time is definitely now, the time where AAPIs can step up and make a big difference. As part of this great nation, it is our responsibility to let our voices be heard and provide a future for this country that all of us will live into. We are part of this country and we all want a better future.(AJPress)
