SCE Calls Save Power Day as First Summer Heat Wave Blankets Southern California

The Save Power Day will take place July 14. Customers who are enrolled in the program can earn up to $100 in bill credits each year.

You may have noticed your thermometer hitting the 90-plus degree mark the past few days, as high temperatures continue to blanket Southern California. As a result, Southern California Edison (SCE) has called a Save Power Day for Monday, July 14.

Residential customers who are enrolled in Save Power Days can earn up to $100 in bill credits each year, in addition to helping conserve some energy. When a Save Power Day is called, customers will be asked to conserve energy between the hours of 2-6 p.m.

“This is our first Save Power Day this year and we want to let our customers know that this program is a great way to earn credits on their bill while doing their part to conserve energy,” said Mark Wallenrod, SCE director of program operations. “We want to encourage our customers to not only sign up for the program, but to also let their friends and family members know about it.”

To sign up for the Save Power Day program, go to: SCE.com/takeaction. Customers can select how they would like to be notified, either by phone, email or text.

On the days designated for Save Power Days, customers will receive alerts the day before. Customers earn $0.75 per kilowatt hour reduced between 2-6 p.m.

Some ways customers can conserve energy include:

  • Setting or programming thermostats no lower than 78 degrees.
  • Using electric fans instead of air conditioning when practical.
  • Turning off unused appliances and equipment.
  • Shutting off lights when leaving a room.
  • Avoiding evaporative coolers or humidifiers when an air conditioner is running.
  • Operating energy-intensive appliances during early morning or evening hours.
  • Limiting how often you open your refrigerator door.
