Filipina singing group Hi-Pertensions headlines fundraising concert on Feb. 21

The internationally known Filipina singing group Hi-Pertensions will be headlining a fundraising concert entitled, Thank You for the Music, on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Harbor Light, 4760 Thornton Ave., Fremont, CA. The concert will benefit Mount of Divine Mercy, located at 4255 Sheridan Road, Sunol, CA.

Hi-Pertensions is composed of Linda Magno, Norma Ledesma and Carina Afable.   The group was formed in 1973, after the ladies’ individual successes in film, stage and TV.  As a trio, it was a matter of the “sum being greater than its parts”—a melding of three distinctive talents into one fabulous singing group.  They called themselves “Hi-Pertensions” because of how they elevate the audiences’ blood pressure through their performances.

Individually, the ladies have achievements to boost.

Linda has been recording artist under Villar Records in the Philippines, where she received the Philippine National Press Voice Award, Tinig Star Award and Aliw Award for Best Performer.  She also performed at the Toronto Variety Club Telethon and also sang at the Dragon Boat Festival in Vancouver, Canada where she is now based.

Norma started singing at the age of five.  Her album, Kind of Music, was Awit Awards’ Best Album of the Year in 1968 while her single Forbidden Love was Best Song of the Year in 1969.  From the age of nine to her late 30s, she appeared in about 15 films.  She also had a TV show called Ledesma Show.  She now resides in California.

Carina started in the entertainment business when she was only eight years old.  She appeared in about eight movies and was nominated FAMAS Best Supporting Actress for the movie Patria Adorada.  She also was in TV shows such as the Philippine Chelsea Dance Time, May I Sing to You, Carina Show, Kiddieland and Stop Look & Listen.  In the US, she appeared in the Barney Miller Show, Weiner Schnitzel TV ad and performed in concerts all over the USA, Canada & Europe.  She is now living in Nevada.

The Hi-Pertensions have performed in five-star hotels all over Asia for international crowd such as the Manila Hilton, Shangri La Hotel in Singapore, Jakarta Hilton, Kuala Lumpur Hilton, Dusit Thani Hotel in Bangkok and many others in the USA and Canada including Ceasar’s Palace in Atlantic City.

Joining the Hi-Pertensions in Thank You for the Music are guests Philippine King of Kundiman Ric Manrique Jr. and Lauren Ona.

Thank You for the Music is presented by Heavenly Voices Production headed by Donnie and Cecile Pastrana, with overall coordinator Thelma Orias, stage directors Aries Pose and Cherry Silos, musical director Alex Lagman and his band, Albert Buycoo on lead guitar, Dexter Javier on bass, Phil Javier Jr. on drums and emcee Lorna Veluz.
