Unveiling Event Located At 525 S. Main St.
Mayor Shelley Berkley and Councilwoman Olivia Diaz will join artist Krystal Ramirez to unveil a new piece of public art Thursday, Jan. 8, at 11:15 a.m., at Las Vegas Civic Center, 525 S. Main St.
The installation is called The Night We Met and utilizes breezeblocks and neon to evoke the city’s past and present. The large sculpture will welcome those entering Las Vegas Civic Center from Main Street.
Ramirez studied at UNLV and has lived in Nevada for more than 35 years. For The Night We Met, she chose to work with the Sarno breezeblock style, originally created by Jay Sarno, the visionary behind Caesars Palace. Ramirez has carefully stacked hand-poured concrete breezeblocks to create two beautiful, curved walls.
Las Vegas Civic Center encompasses the entire city block bordered by Main Street, Goodman Way (formerly Clark Avenue), First Street and Bonneville Avenue. This new development features Carolyn G. Goodman Plaza, which serves as a gathering place for the community and is home to festivals, performances and more right in the heart of the city.
Las Vegas Civic Center also includes a 2,400-square-foot contemporary gallery space that has opened with the Family Album exhibit in partnership between the city of Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Museum of Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
