Heart Evangelista is looking back on a past relationship with candor and humor.
During her June 5 appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” the actress, fashion figure and television host opened up about dating, generosity and the point at which giving too much can begin to feel uncomfortable.
Evangelista appeared on the program with Sean Lucas ahead of the launch of their GMA game show, “The People Have Spoken,” which premiered June 6.
The conversation turned personal when Abunda asked who should pay on a date. Evangelista said that, in a romantic setting, she generally believes the man should pay, joking that a woman already spends time and money preparing for the date. With friends, however, she said she is naturally generous and enjoys hosting.
Asked whether she had ever spent money on a man, Evangelista answered openly. She said she has always been “very, very generous” in relationships and considers giving one of her ways of showing love.
But one past relationship, she said, left a different feeling.
“I did have one boyfriend that I felt like, he was not too — there was something that left a bad taste in my mouth,” Evangelista said during the interview. “Just one, but I won’t say who.”
She added that the experience made her feel as though she had become a “sugar mommy,” using the phrase to describe a moment when she believed her generosity had gone too far.
Evangelista did not identify the former boyfriend. When Abunda asked for clues, she declined to name him, keeping the exchange playful and saying her former partners were good-looking. She also softened the remark by saying the unnamed ex may simply have needed “extra help.”
The interview came as Evangelista and Lucas were promoting “The People Have Spoken,” GMA’s new quiz-and-talk show that asks celebrity teams to guess the most popular answers from a surveyed studio audience.
Evangelista did not linger on the story. She offered it as a passing recollection, one that said less about an unnamed former boyfriend than about how generosity can look different in hindsight.
