Digital banks lead Forbes list of best Philippine banks

Customer survey places MariBank Philippines, GoTyme Bank at the forefront as digital adoption reshapes industry

MANILA — Digital-first lenders have taken the top positions among Philippine institutions in the latest global consumer survey released by Forbes in partnership with Statista, reflecting a shift in how customers assess banking services.

In the 2026 “World’s Best Banks” ranking, MariBank Philippines and GoTyme Bank led the country’s list based on customer evaluations of trust, service quality, digital tools, and financial advice. The results indicate growing preference for mobile-driven platforms that prioritize accessibility and real-time transactions.

Digital platforms gain traction

Both MariBank Philippines and GoTyme Bank operate with limited physical branches, relying on app-based systems designed for streamlined account management. Their performance in the survey suggests that usability and consistency in digital services are increasingly central to customer satisfaction.

Established banks remain competitive

Traditional institutions continue to be represented, pointing to sustained confidence in legacy banks even as competition intensifies.

Among those included are Bank of the Philippine Islands and UnionBank of the Philippines, which have expanded digital capabilities while maintaining broad service networks. Their presence reflects strengths in scale, brand trust, and product range.

Survey-based methodology

The ranking is derived from a large international survey conducted by Statista, drawing responses from thousands of banking customers. Participants rated institutions they use or recognize across customer service, digital experience, financial advice, and transparency. Only banks offering retail services were considered.

Shift in industry dynamics

The findings point to a more competitive banking environment shaped by technology and evolving consumer expectations. Digital banks are gaining ground as primary service providers, while established institutions continue to adapt through ongoing digital transformation.
