There are many kind, generous, and thoughtful people in the world. I am reminded of this whenever someone falls ill or passes away. People demonstrate their concern and care, expressing their prayers and support, and they often reach into their pockets to help those in need. Compassion, empathy, and altruism are inherent qualities in many individuals.

When it comes to God, there are no select few; it is only those who are drawn into a personal relationship with Him who reflect the same goodness, care, and love that He shares with them. Some may not be as religious as others or may be simple, ordinary people quietly living their lives, yet they possess the same qualities of love and care for others.

While we hear about crimes, corruption, and other evils committed by some people in the world, we must not overlook the goodness of those around us. We must not give up on humanity but instead inspire others to continue following the seemingly “narrow way” of life—a life characterized by service, sacrifice, compassion, and care.

For Christians, God’s Way is about sowing seeds of kindness, love, justice, and peace. It’s not merely about attending church or praying; it’s about authentically witnessing our Christian faith to our families, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. It’s about leaving a lasting impact on others, inspiring and influencing them to live remarkable lives. The good things we do for others may seem small to us, but for those who benefit from them, they can be monumental. As we often remind ourselves, it’s the thought that counts.

Let us also remember what Mother Teresa famously said: “Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.” She emphasized that even seemingly insignificant acts, when performed with deep love and intention, can have a profound impact. This idea is central to her philosophy of service, highlighting the power of small acts of kindness and compassion in making a difference in the lives of others.

When it comes to following the “narrow way,” here are some of Mother Teresa’s wisdom and thoughts that we should keep in mind:

  • Focus on Love, Not Size: Mother Teresa believed that the intention and love behind an action are more important than its scale.

  • Accessibility to All: Her message is inclusive, suggesting that everyone, regardless of their abilities or circumstances, can contribute to making the world a better place.

  • Impact of Small Acts: Small acts of kindness, such as a smile, a listening ear, or a helping hand, can create a ripple effect, bringing joy and comfort to others.

  • Example of Doing Small Things: Mother Teresa herself often engaged in acts like caring for the sick and dying, feeding the hungry, and offering comfort to those in need, demonstrating the power of small actions done with great love.

  • Faithfulness in Small Things: She also stressed the importance of faithfulness in small matters, believing that it is in these seemingly minor details that one can find true significance.

Let us be true to the individuals that God has created us to be. In both small and great things, may we demonstrate our fidelity to God, who has shown us the way to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen
