Filipina star’s Berlin semifinal run and two WTA 125 titles mark the strongest stretch of her professional career

Alexandra Eala will enter Wimbledon week with the strongest résumé of her professional career: a Top 30 world ranking, two WTA 125 singles championships and a breakthrough semifinal appearance at a WTA 500 tournament.

The 21-year-old Filipina rose to World No. 30 after reaching the semifinals of the Berlin Tennis Open, placing her in position to become the first Filipina seeded in a Grand Slam singles draw. The Grand Slams  –  the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open –  are tennis’ four major championships.

In Berlin, Eala defeated former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina and Ukrainian veteran Elina Svitolina before falling 6-2, 6-4 to Czech player Linda Noskova, who went on to win the title.

The performance extended a season of steady progress. The WTA lists Eala with a 27-16 record this season and $852,858 in prize money. She reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 29 earlier this year.

On June 7, Eala captured the Lexus Birmingham Open, defeating Czech player Nikola Bartunkova 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 in the final. The grass-court victory gave her a second WTA 125 singles championship following her 2025 title in Guadalajara.

WTA 125 tournaments are part of the WTA pathway but are separate from the main-tour WTA 250, 500 and 1000 events. Eala has not yet won a main-tour singles title, though she reached her first WTA Tour final at Eastbourne in 2025.

Her final singles tuneup before Wimbledon ended with a first-round loss to Belgium’s Elise Mertens at the Bad Homburg Open.

Eala will learn her opening-round opponent when the Wimbledon singles draw is held June 26. The Championships begin June 29 at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

She arrives in London no longer as a newcomer but as an established contender, with a growing record of victories over top-ranked opponents. Wimbledon will test whether she can convert that momentum into her first deep run at one of tennis’ four major championships.
