More than 59,000 Nevada residents have signed up for coverage through Health Insurance Marketplaces since open enrollment began on Nov. 15, 2014.
US Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell said in a news release Wednesday, Feb. 11, there are only four days left before the Feb. 15 deadline to sign up for coverage.
“59,623 individuals in Nevada have already signed up for coverage. If you don’t have health insurance, visit HealthCare.gov – take a look at the plans and financial help available. You may be surprised to learn that the security that comes with health coverage is within your reach,” she said.
In the Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise Nevada local area, 40,961 individuals selected or were automatically re-enrolled in a plan.
As of Jan. 30, a total of 90 percent of Nevada consumers who selected health insurance plans were determined eligible for an average of $248 per person per month in advanced premium tax credits.
Residents in Nevada and throughout the United States alike who do not yet have health insurance are encouraged to sign up at HealthCare.gov before the Feb. 15 deadline. Those who do not have coverage in 2015 will be subject to a fine worth 2 percent of the individual’s annual household income or $325 per person for the year ($162.50 per child under 18), whichever amount is greater.
As of December 2014, nationwide, about 80 percent of those re-enrolling through the Marketplace were eligible for coverage costing $100 or less after applicable tax credits in 2015.
On average, consumers have an average selection of 40 health plans in their county for coverage in 2015 – up from 30 choices in 2014.
A total of 7.75 million consumers either selected a plan or were automatically re-enrolled through HealthCare.gov, according to a Feb. 11 news release.
