The Asian Business Association Partners with the Los Angeles Business Journal for their annual Asian Business Awards

The Asian Business Association (ABA) is proud to once again partner with the Los Angeles Business Journal for their annual Asian Business Awards.  This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the many achievements made by the Asian business community.

We live in a global village and Los Angeles is at the center of trade and commerce in the Pacific Rim.  It is no surprise that Asian businesses are making a huge impact in the Southern California economy.  As an example, a new report published by the Asia Society finds that California has attracted more investment projects from China than any other state in the U.S.  Chinese investments in California are growing at triple digit levels and could reach $60 billion by 2020.

In addition to investing in our state here at home, the Asian American buying power in 2010 totaled $171.7 billion an increase of 287% since 1990.  California’s 508,969 Asian-owned firms had sales and receipts of $181.3 billion and employed nearly 1 million people.

“Southern California, its local businesses and economy is poised to benefit like no other region in the country and Asian businesses are leading the way.  The Los Angeles Business Journal is not only responding to the market, it is drawing attention to the contributions and significant impact of Asian businesses.  LABJ needs to be applauded and recognized for the leadership and responsible journalism,” said ABA Co-Chair, Ronald W. Wong, President and CEO of Imprenta Communications Group.

Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) are playing key leadership roles in all sectors of Southern California life.  As business leaders, entrepreneurs, academics and elected officials, APAs are contributing to our economy and making a positive impact in our society.  Bio-tech entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong is an Asian American, ranked by Forbes as the wealthiest American in the healthcare industry, and the richest person in Los Angeles by the Los Angeles Business Journal.  Major Southern California corporations such as Southern California Gas Company and Kaiser Permanente Southern California are both led by Asian Americans, Ms. Anne Shen Smith and Dr. Benjamin Chu, respectively.

The Asian Business Association is proud to play a leading role in fostering leadership and helping Asian businesses grow and thrive.  For more than 35 years, ABA has represented Asian American business owners and continues to create business opportunities for its members and their diverse communities.

Many ABA members have been finalists and winners of the Los Angeles Business Journal’s Asian Business Awards.  “We congratulate and are excited to celebrate the success of Asian businesses.  The ABA will continue its efforts to foster leadership and entrepreneurship and help our more than 600 members succeed in the global economy,” said Dennis Huang, Executive Director & CEO of the ABA.
