LOS Angeles County logged nearly 8,000 additional cases of the coronavirus over a three-day period, the Department of Public Health reported on Monday, August 22.
Data from Public Health showed that 7,924 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the county, bringing the total to 3,383,792 cases to date. The breakdown includes 3,701 from Saturday, August 20; 2,627 from Sunday, August 21; and 1,596 on Monday, August 22.
During this period, the department also logged 25 new deaths related to COVID-19 — 4 on Monday, 7 on Sunday and 14 on Saturday. Since the start of the pandemic, 33,027 individuals have died from the virus.
Hospitalization numbers are unavailable due to the delay in reporting from the California Department of Public Health.
More than 12,434,000 individuals tested; 24% of people tested positive to date.
The county Department of Public Health has urged residents to get tested for COVID frequently, especially if they have been exposed or have symptoms, before and after gatherings and when they travel.
Health officials reminded residents that if they test positive, they must isolate. If they test negative but still have symptoms, they should remain at home and test again within 24 to 48 hours. n
