LOS ANGELES – Lakewood police detectives are still trying to find the suspect in a hit and run that killed an 83-year-old Filipino woman on May 25.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a red car struck and killed Carolina Garnado Estrella around 4:40am on the morning of May 25, as she was crossing Norwalk Boulevard and Droxford Street in Artesia.

Estrella’s family members told Los Cerritos News that the octogenarian lived a few blocks away and was walking towards New Life Community Church to deliver food, when the hit-and-run occurred.

In a statement, Sergeant Rich Peña and Sergeant Diane Hecht from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said that the driver failed to remain at the scene of the collision and fled southbound on Norwalk Boulevard, out of view.

The vehicle is described as red in color with substantial damage to the front end and windshield, authorities said in a statement.

An Asian Journal follow-up phone call to the detective handling the case was not returned as of press time.

Police are encouraging anyone with any additional information or who may have witnessed the traffic collision to contact investigator Chris Bronowicki of the Lakewood Station Traffic Detail at (562) 623-3500.
