Covered CA highlights outreach efforts to Asian communities

LOS ANGELES – Covered California highlighted the marketing efforts on promoting healthcare insurance through Asian-language advertising and discussed healthcare coverage enrollment on November 26 at the Covered California branch office in Los Angeles.
Covered California began its marketing campaign in October with television and radio advertisements. Asian language advertising also became a trend, through billboards and bus shelters—bringing more awareness to local communities.
The marketing effort is expected to boost healthcare enrollment among Asian consumers, especially who speak Vietnamese, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, Khmer, Lao and Hmong.
“Covered California’s mission is to increase access to health care, so reaching these diverse communities with culturally sensitive information in their languages will be vital to educating people about the new marketplace and the benefits of getting covered,” Lee said.
In California, 95,000 Filipinos are eligible for subsidies in Covered California and 30,000 Filipinos are eligible for Medi-Cal, Lee added, during the press media.
As of November 19, there are 360,000 California residents who have completed Covered California applications, which about 40,000 people are qualified to have health insurance starting on January 1, 2014.
“California is a diverse state. About half a million Asian Americans will benefit from this healthcare insurance marketplace (Covered California). If the consumers apply on or before December 23, they will be able to get their health insurance beginning on January 1, 2014,” Lee said.
