Former Taguig mayor and television director formally assumes leadership of state-run network
MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Lino Edgardo Cayetano, a former Taguig mayor and television director, as general manager of People’s Television Network Inc., placing a former local executive and media professional at the helm of the state-run broadcaster.
The Presidential Communications Office announced the appointment on June 3, saying Cayetano would succeed Maria Lourdes Choa-Fagar as head of PTV-4. Cayetano took his oath on June 4 before PCO Acting Secretary Dave Gomez and formally assumed the post, according to government announcements.
After the oath-taking, Cayetano visited PTV’s main office on Visayas Avenue in Quezon City, where Choa-Fagar welcomed him along with network employees. PTV said Cayetano expressed his intention to build on existing programs, improve the network’s services and expand its reach.
Cayetano is part of one of the country’s most visible political families. He is the younger brother of Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano and Senator Pia Cayetano, and the son of the late former senator Rene Cayetano.
Before entering politics, Cayetano worked in television as a director and creative consultant. The PCO said he earned a Mass Communication degree from the University of the Philippines and a diploma in film from the New York Film Academy.
His public career included serving as representative of the Second District of Taguig-Pateros from 2013 to 2016 and mayor of Taguig from 2019 to 2022.
PTV-4 operates as a government television network under the Marcos administration’s communications structure. The PCO thanked Choa-Fagar for her service but did not provide a detailed public explanation for the leadership change.
Cayetano’s appointment places PTV-4 under a chief whose career has moved across entertainment production, local government and national public communication.
