We saw what joy looked like on the “Day of Tribute to all Mothers” last weekend.
It touched us to the core , bringing back tenderly the true meaning of and reverence for the life-long role of motherhood.
It was a whole day affair that made one laugh, cry and snuggle up to warm, wonderful motherly memories that filled hearts until they nearly burst.
A hundred mothers celebrated being women together. It was a shared event so heartwarming, reminding us of the joys and sacrifices of motherhood, and its affirmation of the most precious and powerful force on earth — that tender, deep attunement between mother and child, which commences before birth, in a cycle of all emotions.
Loving mothers everywhere bestow upon the world what poets describe as “like a circle that has no beginning and no ending, that just keep going around and around, even expanding as the morning mist, warm like a noontime sun, that covers like a blanket of evening stars.”
From the moment the Mother Movement conceived the Special Tribute to all Mothers, they’ve been inspired, even overwhelmed by how eager women were to share, not only their hearts but their stories: lessons, love and joy and their indomitable spirit every step of the way.
They are accomplished mothers from many backgrounds, with varying personal situations, political viewpoints and professional associations, which found acceptance and credence from the community.
The nurses are the champions of patient safety and comfort; skilled caregivers with dedication beyond their wards, peers and community through service. They are hospital heroes exemplifying excellence, determination and compassion.
The teachers are sources of extensive knowledge and character-building. By the stage, they stood regal, proud but tearful, while being serenaded by tenor Romy P. Borje with Neapolitan love songs.
More remarkable was the support of the whole Fil-Am community, which made the event a true gift to the Cinderellas for a day
They came from the grass roots — the mothers next door, void of glitz or glamour but full of compassion, wisdom and openness, with appreciation not only for themselves but for one another.
As for the collective, quiet toiling hands (who call themselves The Mother Movement)they stood side by side, all smiles and with easy elegance in their white matching T-shirts, worn like tails.
They knew it was okay to feel magnificent, powerful — even extraordinary.
They gave all the mothers, a day like no day has been or will ever be.
