Prosperity Begins in the Soul

For years, I thought financial freedom was mostly about numbers.
Better income. Bigger savings account. Smaller debt.
Simple, right?

Then I spent three decades in the mortgage industry and discovered something surprising. I’ve seen people earn six figures and still lose sleep over money. I’ve seen families move into beautiful homes and remain anxious about their future. I’ve also met people with far less who seemed to walk around with a peace that money couldn’t buy.

That’s when I realized money is a little like a microphone—it doesn’t change what’s inside us. It just makes it louder.

The Bible says in 3 John 1:2, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” Notice it doesn’t say, “May your bank account prosper.” It starts with the soul.

That’s not always the message our culture sells us.

We’re told that if we just make more money, buy the right house, get the promotion, or finally reach that magical financial number, everything will fall into place. Yet many people arrive there and wonder why they still feel worried, insecure, or stuck.

The issue often isn’t the money. It’s the story we’ve been carrying about money.

Maybe you grew up hearing, “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” In my Filipino household, wasting food was practically a crime. If I didn’t finish my rice and adobo, I was convinced God, my mother, and every ancestor before me were disappointed. Those lessons taught gratitude, but some of us also picked up fear, scarcity, and beliefs we never stopped to question.

Over the years, I noticed many of my clients weren’t struggling because they lacked information. They were struggling because of what was happening beneath the surface: unhealed disappointments, fear of failure, shame from past mistakes, beliefs that quietly whispered, “I’ll never get ahead” or “I’m just not good with money.”

No budget spreadsheet can fully fix what needs healing in the heart.

That’s one of the reasons I wrote Heal Your Money Wounds God’s Way. I wanted to help people look beyond dollars and cents and uncover the hidden beliefs that may be standing between them and the life they’re praying for.

Because prosperity isn’t just about what you have. It’s about becoming the person who can receive, steward, and enjoy God’s blessings with peace.

And sometimes the greatest financial breakthrough doesn’t begin in your wallet.
It begins in your soul.

Since this column happens to fall during my birthday month, I’d love to celebrate by giving away copies of my book to the first 50 people who reach out. Consider it my birthday gift to you—and perhaps the beginning of a different conversation about prosperity.
