History of the Monument

The Filipino American Friendship Monument was officially unveiled in 2022 as a product of years of advocacy by FABAG-GLAC and its supporters. It was envisioned as a tribute to the vital role Filipino Americans have played in shaping Glendale’s civic, business, and cultural life.

The initiative was led by Past President Ruby De Vera (RIP), whose determination helped secure approval from the City of Glendale and the community’s support. Under her leadership and with help from donors and city officials, what began as a dream became a permanent landmark.

The monument features symbols drawn from Filipino heritage—including the iconic sun and stars of the Philippine flag—and represents themes of friendship, unity, and cultural pride. Since its installation, it has become a landmark for civic events, cultural tours, and moments of community reflection.

Honoring Legacy and Leadership

The celebration paid tribute to Ruby De Vera’s instrumental role in the monument’s creation. A founding member and longtime community leader, she was remembered for her warmth, grace, and tireless dedication to the Filipino American cause in Glendale.

FABAG-GLAC also expressed its heartfelt appreciation to all the donors, sponsors, and volunteers who helped make the monument possible. Their generosity continues to inspire pride and participation across generations.

From Dream to Reality

As FABAG-GLAC marked this important milestone, members reaffirmed their commitment to cultural preservation, civic involvement, and Filipino American visibility in the broader Glendale community.

“From dream to reality,” the Filipino American Friendship Monument stands not just as a structure, but as a statement—a legacy of love, leadership, and shared history.
