Showbiz stars and personalities losers and winners in this year’s Philippine election

IT may be a little premature for some of showbiz personalities to declare victory during the last May 13 elections in the Philippines, so we try to get the most updated results to see who among those may have a leading edge.  Some can be considered as winners, especially when results show that they have gotten majority of the votes.

Based on the Commission on Elections’ (COMELEC) first partial and official tally last May 14, Grace Poe is leading the 2013 senatorial race.  Grace is the daughter of the late Fernando Poe, Jr., the late King of Philippine Movies and a former presidential Candidate.  Francis “Chiz” Escudero, the controversial boyfriend of actress Heart Evangelista, is in the top 12 list, ranking 3rd.

In the City of Manila, former Philippine President and action star Joseph “Erap” Estrada and his running mate actor Isko Moreno were formally proclaimed by the City Board of Canvassers in Manila as Mayor and Vice Mayor.  Erap won over incumbent Mayor Alfredo Lim.

Others who have been proclaimed as winners are:

•  Actor Herbert Bautista was proclaimed on his second term as Mayor of Quezon City.  He won by a landslide victory against his opponent, by a margin of almost half a million.

•  Former actress and mother of JV Ejercito, Guia Gomez is leading as Mayor for the City of San Juan.

•  The Star for All Seasons and incumbent Governor of Batangas Vilma Santos Recto has won another term with a landslide victory.

•  Jinkee Pacquiao, the wife of boxing champion and Congressman Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao is leading by a wide margin in her run as Vice-Governor for the province of Sarangani.  Pacman is also elected to a second term since he ran unopposed.

•  Actor Jeorge “ER” Ejercito Estregan, son of the late actor George Estregan, Jr.  was elected as Governor of Laguna.

•  Actor, Dan Fernandez also won another term as Congressman for the province’s first district.

•  Sexy star Angelica Jones (Angelica Alarva in real life) was reelected as Board Member in the 3rd district of Laguna.

•  Actor Daniel Fernando was reelected as Vice-Governor of Bulacan.

•  Actress, TV host and commercial model Lucy Torres-Gomez was reelected as Congresswoman for the 4th district of Leyte.

•  Actor Aga Muhlach won a seat in Congress to represent the 4th district of Camarines Sur.  Aga is the husband of former beauty queen, actress and TV host Charlene Gonzales.

•  Coming from a showbiz and political family, it is no surprise that Ramon “Jolo” Revilla would also follow suit.  He was elected as Vice Governor of Cavite.  His grandfather is actor and former Senator Ramon Revila, Sr., his father is also Sen. Bong Revilla, and his mother Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla, was reelected to serve the province’s 2nd district.

As of writing, there are some who may still have a winning chance, depending on how many returns are still left to count, or have yet to be proclaimed as winners:

•  Actor/comedian and TV host Roderick Paulate is on 3rd place for his reelection bid for Councilor in the 2nd district of Quezon City.

•  Singer Roselle Nava is in 2nd place for reelection as Councilor for the 1st district of Paranaque City.  Following her in 5th place in the same district is actress Alma Moreno, who is the mother of Vandolph (with the late King of Comedy Dolphy) and Mark Anthony Fernandez (with the late action star Rudy Fernandez).

•  Actor Ryan Yllana is in 2nd place for his reelection bid as Councilor for the 2nd district of Paranaque, while his brother, comedian/actor and Eat Bulaga co-host Anjo Yllana is 4th place for Councilor in the 5th district.

Sadly, there are some who didn’t make the cut:

•  Multi-awarded actor Christopher de Leon failed to win for a seat in Congress for the 2nd district of Batangas.

•  Actor Richard Gomez, husband of reelected Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez, lost his bid for the seat of Mayor in Ormoc City.

•  Actor/comedian Joey Marquez lost his bid for Congressman for the 4th district of Paranaque.

•  Jukebox Queen Imelda Papin did not get enough votes to win as Congresswoman for San Jose Del Monte City in Bulacan.

•  Veteran actress and talent manager Annabelle Rama lost her bid to represent the 1st district of Cebu in Congress.  Annabelle is the wife of veteran actor Eddie Gutierrez and the mother of former beauty queen/actress and TV host Ruffa Gutierrez, actor Richard Gutierrez andTV host Raymond Gutierrez.

•  Shalani Soledad-Romulo lost her bid for Congress for the 2nd district of Valenzuela.  Shalani is an incumbent Councilor for the city and is married to Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo.

•  Singer/songwriter Rey Valera (Rey Guardiano in real life) failed to get enough votes to be elected as Vice Mayor of Meycauayan City, Bulacan.

•  Actor Lou Veloso lost against fellow actor Isko Moreno in his bid as Vice Mayor in the City of Manila.

•  Action star Joko Diaz lost his bid to be a Member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan in the Second Providist Batangas Province.  Joko is the son of the late character actor Paquito Diaz.

•  Actor/TV host Dennis Padilla (Dennis Baldivia in real life) lost his bid to be a Board Member in the 3rd district of Laguna.  Dennis is the son of the late comedian Dencio Padilla and the estranged husband of actress Marjorie Barretto.
