Even in the past, the entertainment industry has played a big role in Philippine politics. Apart from the artists that perform during the campaign season and the one who actually won (actor Joseph “Erap” Estrada who became a mayor, senator, vice president and then president—and is now again the mayor of Manila; and many more), endorsements from big stars also a positive factor for many candidates.
Of course, there’s Megastar Sharon Cuneta who is married to Sen. Francis Pangilinan, veteran actress Helen Gamboa who is the better half of Sen. Tito Sotto, and actress Heart Evanglista, now wife of vice presidential aspirant Chiz Escudero.
As for the Philippines’ one and only Superstar Nora Aunor—fondly called Ate Guy—she said that she is supporting the candidacy of Sen. Grace Poe.
Aside from her respect for veteran actress Susan Roces and the late King of Action Movies Fernando Poe Jr., Nora said that she feels the sincerity of Sen. Poe’s desire to serve the Filipino people.
“Iba talaga kapag babae na may puso na marunong at madaling lapitan. Sigurado ako diyan na malaki ang maitutulong niya sa ating mga kababayan,” she said and then added, “Totoo ‘yan. Lalo na yung mga problemang nangyayari ngayon.”
In other things, Ate Guy is also hoping that she will get that throat operation that she badly needs soon. According to her, the reason it hasn’t happened is because she is still saving up for the cost of the procedure.
In her interview with Pep.ph, Nora shared that TV talk show hosts Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino promised to help her with the costs during her guest appearance in their show, Aquino & Abunda Tonight.
“Nakatulong si Kuya Boy ng malaki. Kaya lang, sabi ko nga sa ‘yo, hindi pa yung sapat…Nag-aano pa ako kasi malaki talaga…milyon.”
The Superstar continued to explain the costs apart from the procedure including hotel accommodation and therapy.
“Unang-una, pagdating mo dun, siyempre mag-aano ka ng hotel, wala ka naman bahay sa Boston. ‘Yung hospital na pagdarausan ng pagpapagamot, walking distance lang dun sa hotel. Mag-i-stay ka dun, mga ilang linggo rin yun,” she said.
Apart from that, she will have to go to New York for therapy, which can be weeks, or even months.
She also clarified that she got nothing from Kris, and she is not expecting anything from her.
“May mga salita naman kasi na minsan hindi naman natutupad,” Nora said and then added, “Pero hindi ako umasa dun.”

The movie Etiquette for Mistresses is doing well in the box-office in the Philippines, London and here in the United States. What some may have thought to be morally degrading for women, turned out to be a story of lessons and choices in life.
Based on writer/columnist Julie Yap Daza’s book, Etiquette tells the story of five women—played by Claudine Barretto, Iza Calzado, Kim Chiu, Cheena Crab and Kris Aquino—describing that although they have chosen a morally questionable lifestyle, it is always for love and not the money.
Director Chito Rono successfully juggled five stories to make it cohesive. As much as people may judge it based on its title, the film is actually a refreshing change amidst the countless films about infidelity.
Etiquette for Mistresses is now showing here in the Bay Area so check Star Cinema’s website for schedule and location.
