WORKPLACE comedy “Superstore” is set to close up shop after its current sixth season.
NBC announced on Thursday, December 3 that the show will return for its final season of 11 episodes on January 14 next year.

“‘Superstore’…has never failed to make us laugh while also thoughtfully examining important issues people care deeply about,” said NBC president of scripted content Lisa Katz.

“This has been an amazing group of writers, producers, actors and crew to work with and we are incredibly grateful for all their contributions. This show will forever hold its place among the top workplace comedies for which we have a cherished history,” she added.

One of Superstore’s main cast members, Filipino American Nico Santos, took to Instagram to express his gratitude for being a part of the show.

“Superstore changed my life in the most profound way. So much of my growth as an artist and a person was because I was surrounded by the most talented cast and crew one could hope for. We truly are a family,” Santos said in his post.

Santos plays the role of Mateo Liwanag, a gay, undocumented Filipino sales associate working at Cloud 9, a fictional big-box store.

“I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done, the stories we’ve told. All the joy and laughter (and some tears) that we’ve brought to you. To be a part of a show that didn’t squelch, but rather celebrated my identity as a Filipino, LGBTQ immigrant is something that will stay with me forever,” he added.

The actor also hoped that the viewers would enjoy the show’s last season.

“While I’m very sad that this will be our last season, I’m looking forward to what the next chapter will bring. THANK YOU for all the love and support you’ve given us. I hope you enjoy the rest of the season,” Santos said.

Superstore, created by Justin Spitzer, stars America Ferrera, Ben Feldman, Lauren Ash, Colton Dunn, Nichole Bloom, Kaliko Kauahi, Mark McKinney, and Santos.

“We’re grateful to Universal Television and NBC for letting us make 113 episodes of a show we’re so proud of, and for giving us the chance to work with such an incredibly talented group of actors, writers and crew,” said executive producers Spitzer, Gabe Miller and Jonathan Green.

“We’re thankful most of all to the viewers who’ve stuck with us for the past six years (or discovered us somewhere along the way). We’ll do our best to go out strong and give you the satisfying ending you deserve,” they added.
