Clarifications cite illness; no verified evidence supports online claims
MANILA — Official representatives for Maine Mendoza and her husband, Arjo Atayde, have formally denied persistent online speculation suggesting a separation, stating that the claims are unfounded. The clarification, issued between March 26 and 27, 2026, follows a wave of social media discussion triggered by Mendoza’s absence from a recent Atayde family gathering.
Official clarifications
According to statements from the family’s public relations representative Chuck Gomez, Mendoza was unable to attend the event due to a temporary health condition, noting she was “not feeling well that day.”
A separate spokesperson similarly rejected the speculation, describing the separation narrative as “not true” and attributing her absence to a routine illness. No official statement from either Mendoza or Atayde indicates a change in their marital status.
Origin of speculation
The rumors gained traction after a video posted on TikTok by comedian Bayani Agbayani showed members of the Atayde family celebrating the birthdays of family patriarch Art Atayde and actress Ria Atayde. Maine Mendoza’s absence from the footage prompted online conjecture.
Netizens also pointed to the absence of Arjo Atayde from Mendoza’s birthday posts, including her 31st birthday on March 3, 2026, where she expressed gratitude for the ‘overflowing love’ but did not share a joint photo with her husband. Similar observations followed her subsequent travel posts from Ho Chi Minh City with friends and did not include Atayde. These social media details, however, remain unverified as indicators of any marital issue
Context and public record
Mendoza and Atayde were married in Baguio City on July 28, 2023. Public appearances indicate the couple was seen together as recently as February 2026, including at the wedding anniversary of television personalities Vic Sotto and Pauleen Luna.
In late 2025, Mendoza issued a public statement defending Atayde against allegations involving public works contracts, asserting that their finances are derived from personal income and savings. No formal findings of wrongdoing tied to those allegations have been publicly established.
Atayde, a member of the National Unity Party and an Assistant Majority Leader in the House of Representatives, has not issued a personal statement addressing the rumors.
