Filipino Tony winner performs “A Whole New World” with Brandy and “Reflection” in a gathering spanning generations of Disney performers
ANAHEIM, Calif. — Lea Salonga joined performers associated with several generations of Disney Princess films and productions in an Aug. 13 concert at Disney California Adventure Park.
The Filipino singer and actress appeared in “Disney Princess: The Ultimate Concert Celebration,” held during D23 Day at Disneyland Resort ahead of the Aug. 14 to 16 D23 convention at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Salonga performed “A Whole New World” from Aladdin with Brandy, who portrayed Cinderella in the 1997 television production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella. She also sang “Reflection,” which she originally performed as Mulan in Disney’s 1998 animated film.
The concert returned Salonga to the two Disney roles most closely associated with her recording career. She provided the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in the 1992 animated Aladdin and of Mulan in the 1998 film. Disney named her a Disney Legend in 2011.
Salonga also reunited with Ming-Na Wen, who provided Mulan’s speaking voice. Wen shared photographs from the gathering featuring Salonga and other Disney performers.
Disney described the concert as its largest gathering of Disney Princess talent, with a lineup that included Brandy, Paige O’Hara, Jodi Benson, Halle Bailey, Auli’i Cravalho, Judy Kuhn and Anika Noni Rose.
The concert was later released on Disney+ and YouTube as part of World Princess Week.
Salonga won the 1991 Tony Award for her performance as Kim in Miss Saigon, before her work on Aladdin and Mulanbroadened her international audience.
