Veteran broadcaster says she has long considered public office but has not declared a candidacy

VETERAN broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez-Roxas has left open the possibility of entering politics, saying she has considered public office for years while describing her husband, former senator and presidential candidate Mar Roxas, as uninterested in another electoral run in 2028.

Sanchez said people around her have encouraged her to run, but she has not identified an office she might seek, set a timetable for a decision or announced preparations for a campaign.

Interest in a possible candidacy has grown after Sanchez was included in a recent Pulse Asia survey testing voter preferences for the 2028 Senate race. She received 10 percent support in the survey, conducted from June 28 to July 6. Inclusion in such a poll does not indicate that a person is a candidate.

Roxas’ name has also resurfaced in political discussions after Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice publicly urged him earlier this year to seek the presidency again in 2028.

Sanchez said Roxas is no longer interested in another presidential campaign but remains open to public service if an appropriate opportunity arises. She also said she was aware of offers for him to return to government, without identifying the positions or who had extended them.

Roxas served in the Senate and held Cabinet posts, including secretary of trade and industry, transportation and communications, and the interior and local government. He was the Liberal Party’s presidential candidate in 2016 and later ran for the Senate in 2019.

Sanchez remains active in broadcasting as an anchor of Bilyonaryo News Channel’s Agenda and in television news and public-affairs programming.

Neither Sanchez nor Roxas has launched a campaign for the 2028 elections.
