The newlyweds come from families whose histories span Philippine cinema, politics, law and government service
MANILA – FPJ Panday Bayanihan party-list Rep. Brian Poe Llamanzares and Justice Undersecretary Margarita Navarro Gutierrez married Sept. 8 at Santuario de San Jose in Mandaluyong City, joining two families with longstanding ties to Philippine cinema, politics, law and government service.
Llamanzares, 34, is the eldest son of former Sen. Grace Poe and Neil Llamanzares. Through his mother, he is the grandson of National Artist Fernando Poe Jr. and actress Susan Roces, who adopted Grace Poe after she was found as an infant in Iloilo.
Gutierrez, 43, is a lawyer and Department of Justice undersecretary. An Ateneo de Manila University law graduate, she worked at the Supreme Court and Office of the Ombudsman before entering private practice and later serving in senior government posts.
She is the daughter of former Justice Secretary and Ombudsman Ma. Merceditas Navarro Gutierrez and Jesus N. Gutierrez. Her mother, also a lawyer, now chairs the National Commission of Senior Citizens and was the country’s first woman Ombudsman.
Gutierrez’s maternal grandfather, lawyer Rufino Navarro Sr., served as vice governor of Bataan, extending the family’s public-service tradition another generation. Before entering the legal profession, Gutierrez also worked as a model and competed in Binibining Pilipinas in 2008.
Llamanzares and Gutierrez have undertaken public-service initiatives together. In April, the Bureau of Corrections said they donated 16 tablet devices with keyboards for educational, administrative and reformation programs for persons deprived of liberty and BuCor personnel.
Their wedding reception was held at Foro de Intramuros in Manila following the ceremony.
