The Filipino pop group contributes an original song to the animated film’s soundtrack
MANILA — Filipino pop group BINI released “A Parallel World” on July 23 as an original song for DreamWorks Animation’s forthcoming feature Forgotten Island.
The song arrived on digital music platforms after BINI introduced part of the recording during the opening Manila concerts of its Signals World Tour in June.
BINI is composed of Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna and Sheena. The group is managed by Star Magic and records under Star Music, both part of ABS-CBN.
“A Parallel World” is among several Filipino and Filipino American contributions announced for the film’s soundtrack. Other participating artists include H.E.R., Lea Salonga, SB19, KATSEYE member Sophia Laforteza, Ruby Ibarra and Carl Angelo.
The song has not been identified as the film’s principal theme or lead single. Public announcements describe it as BINI’s original contribution to the soundtrack.
Forgotten Island follows Jo and Raissa, lifelong friends voiced by H.E.R. and Liza Soberano. As they prepare to take separate paths after high school, the two enter a portal that transports them to Nakali, an island inhabited by creatures drawn from stories told by their Filipino families.
Their effort to return home becomes more difficult when they learn that escaping the island could cost them the memories of their friendship.
The voice cast also includes Dave Franco as Raww and Lea Salonga as the Dreaded Manananggal. Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, Jenny Slate and Ronny Chieng are among the other announced performers.
Joel Crawford and Filipino American filmmaker Januel Mercado wrote and directed the film, with Mark Swift serving as producer. The three previously worked together on DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
DreamWorks Animation produced Forgotten Island, with Universal Pictures handling distribution. The film is scheduled to open in U.S. theaters on Sept. 25.
