MANILA — Andi Eigenmann said growing up as the daughter of two prominent actors brought pressure to establish an identity and career of her own in Philippine show business.
In an interview with broadcaster Karen Davila released July 18, Eigenmann described herself as “technically” a “nepo baby,” a popular label for children of prominent figures who enter the same field and are perceived to benefit from family connections.
Eigenmann, the daughter of the late actors Jaclyn Jose and Mark Gil, said she felt greater pressure when she entered entertainment because she wanted to show that she was more than her parents’ child.
“I can make a name for myself, that I’ve got what it takes, that I deserve to be here,” she said, recalling her early career.
Viva Artists Agency lists Eigenmann’s television work as beginning in 2005. She later played the adult twins in the 2010 fantasy drama “Agua Bendita.” Her film credits include “A Secret Affair,” “Camp Sawi” and “Ma’ Rosa,” in which she appeared with Jose.
Jose won the Cannes Film Festival’s best actress award in 2016 for her performance in “Ma’ Rosa.” Gil died in 2014, while Jose died in 2024.
Eigenmann also said the pressures she experienced while growing up in public affected her mental health. Her remarks centered on pressure and efforts to prove herself.
She has stepped away from regular film and television work and lives with her family in Siargao. Viva continues to list her as an actress, content creator, influencer and endorser.
