TWELVE million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the Philippines since the government kicked off its vaccination campaign in March, according to the National Task Force Against COVID-19.
“We’re here now to announce to you, lumampas po ang apat na araw, naka 1 million na naman tayo ulit. 12 million [doses administered] na po tayo ngayon (four days have passed and we administered another 1 million doses. We are now at 12 million),” NTF deputy chief implementer Vince Dizon said during a press conference in Clark Freeport Zone on Tuesday, July 6.
“Dumating lang po ang supply natin, tingin ko po ang mga mayors natin, ang mga governors natin all over the country, kaya po nating i-achieve ang goal natin for this year (Once our supply arrives, I think our mayors and governors all over the country, we can achieve our goal for this year),” he added.
A total of 8,839,124 individuals have received at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine in the country, while 2,868,905 have been fully vaccinated.
The Philippine government aims to vaccinate 50 to 70 million Filipinos this year to achieve herd immunity.
In response, Malacañang welcomed the latest development in the country’s fight against the pandemic.
“As of today, ito ay mabuting balita narating na natin ang 12 million mark of doses administered (This is good news that we reached the 12 million mark of doses administered). Congratulations Philippines),” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said during a televised press briefing.
He also urged the public to get vaccinated amid the discovery of the Lambda variant, which was first detected in Peru and reportedly more infectious than the Delta variant.
“Tara na po magpabakuna at magkaroon ng dagdag na protection ito ay sa gitna na report na may panibagong variant ang Lambda variant unang na-detect sa Peru na kumakalat ngayon (Let’s get vaccinated and get additional protection amid reports there is a new variant, the Lambda variant first detected in Peru that is now spreading),” said Roque.
As of this writing, there are a total of 1,445,832 COVID-19 cases in the country, with 25,296 fatalities and 1,370,923 recoveries.
