PHILIPPINE Senator Mary Grace Sonora Poe Llamanzares, commonly known as Grace Poe, will celebrate her 46th birthday on September 3. Born in Iloilo but abandoned by her biological mother at birth, she was adopted by the late King of Philippine Movies Fernando “FPJ” Poe Jr. and wife, actress Susan Roces.
Sen. Poe was educated in the Philippines and here in the United States, graduating from Boston College. She came home when her father died, a year after FPJ ran and lost in a disputed presidential election in 2004. The senator then decided to get involved in politics and was appointed by President Aquino as chairman of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) in 2010. She won a seat in the Senate in 2013, with the most votes of any single candidate.
