The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs on Monday, May 24, reported 94 new cases COVID-19 among overseas Filipinos, bringing the total number of infected individuals to 2,617.
“With 94 new confirmed cases reported today by our Foreign Service Posts mostly in the Americas, the total number COVID-19 infection involving Filipinos abroad breached the 2,600 mark,” the department announced.
It also reported 34 new deaths in the Middle East, raising the death toll to 328.
Meanwhile, 10 new recoveries were recorded in Europe and the Middle East, which brings the total number of recovered Filipinos abroad to 889.
“Of the total confirmed cases, there are 10 new recoveries recorded in Europe and Middle East and 34 new deaths in the Middle East as well. The total number of patients under treatment also breached the 1,400 mark today,” the DFA said.
“Based on the latest figures, the DFA confirms that Europe and the Middle East still have the highest number of COVID-19 positive Filipinos, Asia and the Pacific [have] the fewest number of cases, while the Americas still has the highest number of fatalities,” it added.
Overall by region, Europe — which comprises 16 countries with PH Foreign Service coverage — has recorded 791 Filipino cases, including 461 undergoing treatment, 240 recoveries and 90 deaths.
The Middle East and Africa, covering 12 countries, has reported 735 cases; of which, 539 are undergoing treatment, 86 deaths and 110 recoveries.
The Asia Pacific region, which spans across 12 countries, has 459 cases, with 130 under treatment, 327 recoveries, and two deaths.
The Americas — covering six countries like the United States — have 632 reported cases, with 270 undergoing treatment, 212 recoveries, and 150 deaths.
Meanwhile, the Philippines has recorded 14,319 COVID-19 cases, with 873 fatalities and 3,323 recoveries.
