Harvard and Stanford Law Graduate Brian Goldsmith aims to represent Rancho Palos Verdes, Torrance, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills in election for California Senate District 24

LOS ANGELES, CA – Brian Goldsmith, a Los Angeles native and longtime resident, is running to represent California’s 24th Senate District, which includes Rancho Palos Verdes, Torrance, Malibu, Santa Monica, and Beverly Hills. Brian aims to replace current Senator Ben Allen, who will leave office at the end of his final term in December 2026.

He is an award-winning journalist, entrepreneur, and Democratic consultant. Goldsmith has advised candidates, nonprofits, and companies, helping elect several Democratic members of Congress. He spent more than a decade as a political columnist and commentator, with Yahoo News, The Atlantic, CBS News, and CNN, also a lead political producer with Katie Couric Media.  A graduate of Harvard College and Stanford Law School, Goldsmith also founded two California startups focused on technology and expanding economic access.

Goldsmith’s roots in the district run deep—his grandparents began their lives in Beverly Hills in the 1950s, his parents continued that legacy, and he now raises his own family here with his wife Claire, an educator, and their two young children. He emphasizes listening to the district’s diverse communities and delivering results rooted in lived experience. “California gave my family a chance to succeed. Now, families across our district are being priced out and stretched thin. I’m running to make life more affordable, safer, and more hopeful for the next generation,” said Brian Goldsmith.

Brian’s priorities as Senator include:

  • Expanding workforce and affordable housing, supporting small businesses, lowering energy costs, and protecting health care access
  • Addressing crime and homelessness through policy and working with nonprofits to deliver results
  • Preparing kids for a changing economy, addressing youth mental health, building climate-resilient infrastructure, and improving government efficiency.
  • Fighting hate and division by continuing to call out racism, antisemitism, and the rise in anti-Asian hate while protecting immigrant families.

Notable endorsements for Brian include:

Former U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer; Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi; U.S. Secretary Pete Buttigieg; California Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur; Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; Former State Senate Majority Leader Bob Hertzberg; Former State Senator Fran Pavley; Former Beverly Hills Mayor Lili Bosse; Santa Monica Mayor Lana Negrete; the California Association of Highway Patrolmen (CAHP); Teamsters Joint Council 42; and ILWU Locals 13, 63 & 94.

Brian Goldsmith will be on the June 2026 primary ballot.  The top 2 candidates will move on to the November 2026 general elections.
