Housing rights clinic offers in-language help for Fil-Am, AAPI communities in SoCal

AS the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect daily life, non-profit organization Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Los Angeles is expanding its free legal services to now include housing rights and anti-discrimination for the Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community in the greater Southern California region.

In response to the surge in racism against AANHPIs during the COVID-19 pandemic, Connie Chung Joe, CEO of Advancing Justice-LA, says, “Over the past year, there have been over 3,000 reported incidents of hate. Members of our community are struggling with this growing discrimination while also working hard to keep and obtain essential safe housing. We know that limited-English proficient individuals are too often underserved so we are here to keep them housed and protected during this tumultuous time.”

Advancing Justice-LA is providing free monthly one-on-one clinics to low-income and limited-English AANHPI community members who are in need of assistance with landlord harassment, eviction notices, lease disputes, and many other issues. In collaboration with Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA), expert legal assistance will be provided by staff attorneys, accredited pro-bono attorneys, and DOJ accredited representatives. All consultation is online and confidential.

It will be offered every second Tuesday every month, beginning Tuesday, February 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. PST. To register, the community can call 855-300-2552 for Tagalog or 888-349-9695 for English. (AJPress)
