Jose Rizal Day was recently held in Carson, California. Councilman Jim Dear and Filipina American Councilperson Arleen Rojas led the birthday celebration of the Philippine national hero at the international sculpture garden near the Carson Community Center.

Councilman Jim Dear said that Dr. Jose P. Rizal has inspired many men and women in the world to be patriotic.

Councilwoman Rojas stressed that Dr. Jose Rizal urged nonviolent struggle for freedom. However, his novels have inspired the revolutionaries which led to the proclamation of independence of the Filipinos from the Spaniards in 1898.

Planning Commissioner Frederick Docdocil encouraged the Filipino American youth to join future celebrations honoring Dr. Jose P. Rizal.

The Rizal monument is located at the international sculpture garden near the Carson Community Center parking lot. Jim Dear and former Councilman Elito Santarina were instrumental in setting up the monument.

Community and business sponsors of the event were CONFAA, SEAFOOD CITY and

Alex Cainglet Farmers Insurance. The next event will be held on December 30, 2022 highlighting the heroic death of national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal. (Contributed by Fe Koons)
