PH Consulate in SF Supports first PAL Golf Cup tourney in Discovery Bay, California

DISCOVERY BAY – The Philippine Consulate General and the Philippine Department of Tourism Office in San Francisco supported the first Philippine Airlines (PAL) Golf Cup Tournament held at Discovery Bay Golf and Country Club in Discovery Bay, California on October 22, 2023.

Consul and Economic Supervising Officer Vanessa Bago-Llona, and Tourism Attaché Soleil Tropicales represented the Consulate at the first PAL Cup, held in honor of the late Philippine Airlines Holdings President Lucio “Bong” Tan Jr.

In her remarks, Consul Bago-Llona congratulated PAL for its first cup, held in conjunction with Filipino American History Month in October. “On behalf of Consul General Neil Ferrer and the rest of the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, I wish to thank PAL for its partnership with the Philippine Government, especially in promoting tourism in the country, which contributes 6.2% to the Philippines’ Gross Domestic Product,” she said.

Consul Bago-Llona recalled that PAL supported the Very Important Pinoy (VIP) Tour in July 2023 to bring close to 300 Filipino American visitors to the country.

According to Attorney Carlos Luis Fernandez, officer in charge and Executive Vice President and General Counsel of PAL, the proceeds of the benefit cup will go to the PAL Foundation to support its social programs.

Fernandez noted that PAL has been seeing growth since last year and for the first half of 2023 alone, the national flag carrier has recorded an income of more than US$314 million. PAL is also purchasing nine Airbus A350-1000 long-range jetliners to add to its current fleet.
