LOS ANGELES – New evidence has been uncovered in the continuation of preliminary hearings on the case of Alvin Bulaoro, a 24-year-old Fil-Am Navy veteran who was allegedly killed by 23-year-old US marine Kevin Coset.
Investigators reported in the hearing that they found the suspect’s journal where he wrote about killing the victim.
At the arraignment procedures on Wednesday Coset pleaded not guilty in the murder charge against him for the death of Bulaoro.
According to investigators, Coset wrote in his journal that killing Bulaoro was a matter of survival.
Coset wrote: “Tonight I had to kill for the third time. It was a guy named Alvin Bulaoro in Fallbrook. It was definitely a-him-or-me situation. I find no joy in killing, but must survive in my fight against the evil Musgrove organization…They have been plotting against me for years now as well as entering my mind and stealing my intelligence.”
Detectives also revealed during the preliminary hearing that Coset and Bulaoro talked over the phone and exchanged 29 text messages between Dec. 20 and Dec. 21, 2012.
During this exchange, Coset used a pre-paid mobile phone. The phone exchanges implicated Coset in the case, leading to his arrest on Feb. 22 at Camp Pendleton.
On Dec. 21, 2012, Bulaoro’s family reported that the Navy vet had gone missing.
On Jan. 2, 2013, after two weeks of searching, Bulaoro’s body was found stashed inside his Toyota 4Runner parked outside an Albertson’s store in Fallbrook.
According to reports from NBC San Diego, the medical examiner found that Bulaoro was stabbed 44 times. It was also alleged that Coset slit Bulaoro’s throat and shot him twice in the head.
