Today in Las Vegas, AANHPI leaders, including elected officials and local small business owners, hosted a press conference to highlight the contrast between Vice President Harris’ new proposals that will bolster small businesses and Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda that will champion wealthy corporations over Nevada’s small businesses. The Vice President’s new plan features a dramatic tenfold expansion of tax relief for new small businesses, measures to cut red tape that often makes life harder for small business owners, and aims to help spur 25 million new small business applications in her first term.
Vice President Harris believes that small businesses are the backbone of our economy. That’s why she is charting a New Way Forward for AANHPI entrepreneurs with a historic plan to support America’s small businesses — bolstering the small business boom Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander entrepreneurs are already experiencing under the Biden-Harris administration. In stark contrast, Donald Trump and his Project 2025 plan will raise costs for the middle class while giving billionaires and big corporations a tax cut.
“Today, I stand in front of you as an Assemblyman, a business owner, and a constant advocate for my community,” said Assemblyman Duy Nguyen. “I see Vice President Kamala Harris today, the daughter of an immigrant working mother. Vice President Harris worked at McDonald’s while she was in college. She knows what many of us have experienced in this room: from the very beginning — working your way up. […] But where is Donald Trump? We don’t have to wonder what his plan is. It is spelled out right in front of us in Project 2025. He is seeking to eliminate the middle class entirely, raising taxes on middle class families by nearly $4,000. When he was president, Nevada lost nearly 25,000 jobs and unemployment spiked to over 30 percent—the highest in the nation. We are not going back.”
“I am fighting for Vice President Kamala Harris because she has always fought for us,” said small business owner Cici Zhang. “She knows what it is like to fight for your career and work to make ends meet. Kamala Harris grew up in a middle-class family with a single, immigrant mother. Her mom taught her the values of hard work. From her time as an Attorney General, U.S. Senator, and Vice President of the United States, she has proven what it looks like to fight for your career. And now she is standing up for small business owners.”
“Vice President Harris has a plan to build upon the historic investments that the Biden-Harris administration made for small businesses,” said small business owner Sanje Sedera. “She supports minority communities. She herself was raised in a middle-class family by a single immigrant mother. And now, Kamala Harris is working to provide tax breaks, cut the red tape, and expand our opportunities. Meanwhile, Donald Trump calls us names, provides corporate handouts to his billionaire buddies, and raises taxes on the middle class.”
“Vice President Harris wants to give new small businesses a $50,000 tax break, ten times the amount that is given now,” said small business owner and President of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce of Southern Nevada, Kate Torres-Recto. “But Donald Trump only wants to give corporate handouts to his billionaire friends. He doesn’t understand what it is to be middle class or to work for your future.”
