$81M I-15 South Widening Project Nears Completion

Nevada’s $81 million I-15 South widening project enters final phase, adding lanes and modern infrastructure ahead of a December 2025 finish.
Las Vegas, NV – A major road upgrade for one of Southern Nevada’s busiest highways is nearing its final stretch. The $81 million Interstate 15 (I-15) South widening project is now more than 75% complete, with full completion expected by December 2025, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).

Construction began in January 2024 along a critical stretch between Sloan Road and Blue Diamond Road, expanding I-15 from six to up to eleven lanes. The project aims to reduce congestion, improve safety, and accommodate rapid growth in the Las Vegas Valley.

“We’re focused on paving, safety installations, and intelligent transportation systems,” said NDOT spokesperson Justin Hopkins. “This will help support our communities and economy well into the future.”

Project Scope and Benefits

The improvements include:

  • Widening from six to eight lanes between Sloan Road and St. Rose Parkway
  • Widening to eleven lanes between St. Rose Parkway and Blue Diamond Road
  • Pavement preservation, bridge resurfacing, and electrical upgrades
  • Installation of intelligent traffic systems, guardrails, and fencing

The project’s cost was reduced from $86 million to $81 million after scaling back some sound wall construction. It is funded by 95% federal and 5% state funds.

Closures and Construction Impacts

Drivers should expect overnight lane closures through July, especially between Warm Springs and Sloan Road. Paving work and finishing installations are scheduled most nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Current lane reductions include:

  • Three southbound lanes between Warm Springs and Blue Diamond
  • Three northbound lanes between Silverado Ranch and Blue Diamond, with one auxiliary lane closed

Looking Ahead

Final stages will focus on paving, landscaping, and technology installations. NDOT encourages drivers to monitor updates and use caution in work zones.

“We’re on schedule and excited to bring this project across the finish line,” Hopkins added.
