LOS ANGELES — The K.W. Lee Center for Leadership is a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles that offers students the opportunity to improve and enrich the quality of life in their communities. Through the Korean American Youth Leaders in Training (KAYLT) Program, program participants research critical issues and develop a project that benefits the broader community. To provide students the opportunity to think critically about the best educational options for them, the KAYLT college interns have designed the Education Opportunities Fair. On behalf of the K.W. Lee Center, the KAYLT college interns would like to invite your organization to the event on Thursday, August 8th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the Korean Education Center (680 Wilshire Place #200, Los Angeles, CA 90005).
The free Educational Opportunities Fair welcomes high school students who are unsure about what they should do after high school, or who are hoping to learn more about the options that they have chosen as their next steps. Through this event, we are aiming to adjust the traditional ideas of a “valuable” education to encompass technical schools and internships in additional to the traditional 4-year college path. We hope to address each student’s unique needs and interests by exposing students to a variety of viable options.
At the fair a panel of speakers and several workshops will provide diverse perspectives on the topic of post-secondary education. Warren T. Furutani, former California State Congressman and Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees member will serve as the event’s Keynote Speaker. Los Angeles Trade Technical College’s President, Laurence B. Frank, will speak about his diverse educational experiences while providing information about trade schools.
These activities aim to motivate students to learn more about the respective merits of technical schools, 4-year colleges, and internships while providing some of the resources that students may need to be successful at these places. The event will conclude with a question and answer section at booths where representatives will assist students with questions about financial aid, speak about college and trade school options, talk about internship opportunities, and share mentorship services.
