Los Angeles— “Ipagbunyi ang Araw ng Kalayaan ng Pilipinas!
After the final preparation and meeting last Monday, June 02, 2014 at FACLA, the 2nd HFT Independence Day Parade Organizing (2HFTIDPOC) through 2nd HFT Parade Coordinator Arturo Garcia announced that it’s all systems go for the 2nd Historic Filipinotown Philippine Independence Parade on Saturday at 9:00 AM, June 07, 2014.
At the same time, JFAV National Coordinator Arturo Garcia called on the different Filipino American youth and student organizations in California led by SCPASA to participate in the 2nd HFT Philippine Independence Day Parade.
A Call for Volunteers and Youth Participation
Garcia said, “We call on the Filipino American youths and students to attend, volunteer and participate on this parade on June 07. We need marshals. security, flag bearers and other duties for the parade.This is the good opportunity for patriotic and progressive FilAm youths to get out of their cozy academe and enclosed communities and from the ritual of their socials and PCN’s and be with the real community in Historic Filipinotown. of Los Angeles.” Garcia added
As Filipino-Americans we must be proud and let us celebrate the declaration of Asia’s first republic and its independence against a European colonial power –Spain in June 12, 1898. Let us all celebrate our freedom from colonialism.” Garcia exclaimed.
The 2nd HFT Independence Day Parade starts and end at Filipino American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA) in Historic Filipinotown of Los Angeles. The assembly time will be at 7:00 AM and the parade will start promptly at 9:00 AM.
The parade will start at Temple and Burlington on both sides at exactly 9;00 AM and will proceed and make a left on Benton Way St. And then make a left on Beverly St, another left on Rampart St and right on Temple St.
From Temple St, the parade will make a right on Parkview St and left on Beverly St and cross Alvarado St and make a right at Mountain View St and finally make a right on Temple and end at FACLA Compound for the closing ceremonies at 11:00 AM.
The Parade and Program
There will a be an opening program at the FACLA Social Hall at 8:30 AM After the parade, there will also be a closing ceremonies at the Social Hall.
There also will be food booths and displays at FACLA of different private and non-profits organizations after the parade.
Leading the parade are The Filipino American Community of Los Angeles Inc. (FACLA), Philippinetown Inc (PTI), the Philippine Consulate General of Los Angeles, Historic FiIipinotown Neighborhood Council (HFNC) , The Justice for the Filipino American Veterans (JFAV),People’s CORE and the DANZA AZTECA Cuahatemoc.
