For 2013-2014 term
CERRITOS – Filipino American Cerritos City Councilman Mark E. Pulido was elected to serve as Mayor Pro Tem for the 2013-2014 term by his city council colleagues at the Council’s annual reorganization meeting on the evening of March 13, 2013.
The meeting began with outgoing mayor Jim Edwards being honored for his eight years of service on the city council. Re-elected councilmember Carol Chen and newly elected councilmember George Ray were sworn into office, followed by the election of councilmember Bruce Barrows as mayor and Pulido as mayor pro tem for the 2013-2014 term.
Pulido was elected to the Cerritos City Council on March 8, 2011 with the highest vote total in city history. He is now midway through his first four-year term on the Council.
“I am very humbled and honored for this wonderful opportunity to serve and give back to my hometown Cerritos,” remarked Pulido.
“I thank my wife Gloria and our family for the love and support they have given me over the many years to serve in elective public office. I thank my Council colleagues for this opportunity to serve as Mayor Pro Tem and most of all, I thank the residents of Cerritos for entrusting me with their vote to be their voice.”
Pulido has been a longtime resident of Cerritos for over 40 years and is a product of local ABC Unified School District (ABCUSD) schools. In 1992, he made history as the first Filipino-American elected UCLA Student Body President. After graduate school, he returned home with his wife Gloria to raise their family and was elected in 2001 to serve on the Board of Education of the ABCUSD. He served nearly 10 years on the school board and served as Board President, during the 2007-2008 school year.
“I feel very fortunate and just want to give back for all of my blessings. In elective office, I strive to set a positive example for my children and all our youth that you can truly make a difference in your local community and in the world,” he said.
