COMMISSION ON AGING, TORRANCE, CA
Benito M. Miranda has been a dedicated champion for the Filipino American community since his college days at Woodbury University in Los Angeles. He was the first Asian voted as President of the student body at the time. To date, he has held positions in the FilAm community such as, president of Rotary Club of Historic Filipinotown, president of SIPA (Search to Involve Pilipino Americans), Vice-Chairman of FASGI (Filipino American Service Group, Inc.), Vice President of the FilAm Olympic Committee among other Filipino American organizations. Benito is most avid about the FilAm senior community and their needs. He is currently Regional Manager for Care1st Health Plan.
After serving for several years as one of the Commissioners in the Cultural Arts Commission in Torrance, CA, he was appointed as one of the new Commissioners for the Torrance Commission on Aging. The Commission deals with the needs and issues confronting senior citizens in the community and provides a voice for senior citizens as a community group. The Commission has a direct liaison to the City Council.
Benito will assume his new role as Commissioner on aging February 1, 2014. He views the road ahead with excitement at the opportunity to do good for his community and the people that it serves.
Benito resides in Torrance with his wife, Becca Godinez. Their daughter Natasha will be wed this year – an exciting time for the family. Their second daughter, Ann Marie resides in Portland, Oregon.
