LOS ANGELES — Kris Aquino, dubbed the “Queen of All Media,” continues to battle a complex mix of autoimmune diseases while navigating significant changes in both her medical care and personal life.
In a heartfelt Instagram update posted on April 6, Aquino disclosed that Dr. Mike Padlan, a physician she had previously acknowledged as a romantic partner, has chosen to step down from his role as one of her lead doctors. The announcement follows the couple’s quiet breakup earlier this year.
“I understood why he chose to opt out,” Aquino wrote, alluding to the inevitable clash between her high-profile, health-centered reality and his responsibilities as a practicing medical professional. While she did not go into detail, her tone was one of gratitude and acceptance, highlighting her respect for his decision.
Aquino has been public about her ongoing health challenges. She is currently undergoing treatment for nine autoimmune diseases, five of which she has described as “life-threatening.” Among the conditions she continues to manage are chronic spontaneous urticaria and mixed connective tissue disease—both requiring frequent hospitalization and experimental treatments.
The recent Instagram post also shed light on a medical procedure Aquino underwent at Makati Medical Center, where her peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line was replaced. “I’m not a diva patient,” she clarified, responding to rumors and emphasizing her compliance with her doctors’ recommendations. The change was based on the preference of her vascular surgeon, who cited safety reasons.
Despite her physical limitations, Aquino’s spirit remains unyielding. She revealed that her weight has climbed back to 88 pounds—still far from ideal, but a welcome sign of progress after experiencing a prolonged loss of appetite. “I’m still here,” she noted, adding that she’s put her full trust in God’s plan for her life and recovery.
As Aquino continues her treatment both in the Philippines and abroad, the Filipino public remains steadfast in offering prayers and encouragement. Her openness has made her journey deeply relatable to many, especially those navigating similar health battles behind the scenes.
