IT’S a new year and with the blank slate comes an ambitious list of resolutions, whether it’s kickstarting a healthier and more active lifestyle or prioritizing self-care.
While it may be daunting to tackle these personal goals alone, iSkin Face and Body Spa in Beverly Hills, California is a sanctuary where you can jumpstart a new routine and maintain this lifestyle year-round complete with the personalized attention, relaxing environment and beauty treatments you can get locally at approachable prices.
For iSkin’s Imee Ong-Maghanoy — a beauty and skincare expert who owns and operates the spa alongside her husband Richard — the mission of her company has always been beyond physical aesthetics, but rather the confidence and self-esteem one exudes when taking of his or herself.
“Whatever an individual does, whether it’s through fashion or beauty, you think about what image you want to present. When you take care of yourself, it’s the image you want to portray,” Ong-Maghanoy said in an interview.
For the past decade, since opening Image Spa in Rancho Cucamonga, Ong-Maghanoy has championed a non-surgical, non-invasive approach to beauty, enabling her to build a loyal client base, especially within the Filipino American community and eventually venture out to Hollywood to rack up celebrity clientele and be accessible to those who live in Los Angeles.
“With technology now, there’s so much you can do without surgery. In the medical spa industry, we talk about how look younger, like 10 years back, so we combine a lot of services to achieve. Of course, you need some good skincare so we have a line of products as well. Our team puts together programs to help you achieve your goals,” she said.
iSkin’s menu includes a lineup of facial treatments, body wraps, cosmetic injectables and skin tightening and slimming. Among the newest offerings includes the Emsculpt Neo, a non-invasive body shaping procedure that provides simultaneous fat elimination and muscle building in a combined 30-minute session.
“During the pandemic, people were less active and consumed more so in demand treatments for us have been the Emsculpt, slim shots, or other body machines. That’s why we’ve invested in new machines,” Ong-Maghanoy said.
The grand opening for the Beverly Hills location was held in the summer of 2021, demonstrating the spa’s loyal customer base and demand since the start of the pandemic. Not too far from its previous West Hollywood space, iSkin now occupies the penthouse floor of a building along Wilshire Boulevard and features several treatment rooms plus an outdoor patio to relax post-treatment with a sprawling view of the city.
The celebration was also an opportunity to re-introduce its lineup of aspirational and timeless Filipina celebrity endorsers and beauty ambassadors across ages: veteran actress Hilda Koronel, model and beauty queen Ruffa Gutierrez, singer Pops Fernandez, and actress and host KC Concepcion.
“The power of celebrities is different because we always look up to them and they’re an inspiration. These women reflect our company because as they age, they look better and they have more wisdom to share. That’s what we want to impart to clients: you can’t stop aging but there is something you can do about it. You have an option to let go or do something about it, and I think these women really represent that concept,” Ong-Maghanoy said.
As for what to expect in 2022, Ong-Maghanoy said iSkin is ready to welcome new and old clients to its Beverly Hills space for a moment of self-care amid the external stresses.
“We always try our best to improve our services and to make sure our clients are happy. In 2022, I can see we’re bringing more new treatments and improving the techniques in the beauty industry,” she said.
