(Part 2 of 3)
In my previous column, we had part one of resetting your life. Now here are the other tips on how to do it.
Ready? Now let’s start RESETTING YOUR LIFE.
First, we talked about breathing. Proper breathing will CLEAR your MIND. It will relax and slow you down a bit.
When I get tired, I take a break. I usually go out of town with a friend in tow just to breathe fresh air. I do nothing but laugh, talk or walk. I go to places I’ve never been and commune with nature. Sometimes I go to far away churches and say a little prayer of thanks. Or, I explore new restaurants and spend coffee time with a very good friend.
In short, I try to focus on other things rather than work and worries. I take time to have that “me time” — the alone time with myself. It makes me contemplate. It makes me rethink.
Next, while taking this break and relaxing, reassess your goals, reevaluate situations in your life.
What makes you happy? What activities make you more positive?
On a fine Black Saturday, I was leisurely soaking in the pool, when thoughts came into my mind. I pondered about a lot of things and re-evaluated my goals. I thought aloud. What is it that I need to tweak in my life goals? Do I need to stop in the middle of what I am doing or should I simply let go of some things I don’t need anymore?
After that relaxing dip, I got a pen and paper and started to write under the mango trees with the luxury of real birds chirping. Ah, it was very timely since Easter was fast coming up.
Easter symbolizes rebirth and new beginnings. It was the season of forgiveness and renewing of ties, of sharing and letting go of hurts. It was a perfect time to contemplate.
And I started writing. On the blank sheet of paper, I first wrote down the goals I had 10 years ago. For those who have none, write down what you have achieved. Do it. Highlight all the goals you were able to reach.
Then let us jot down all your smiles and laughter, record your triumphs and moments of pride in another paper. What brought happiness into your life for the past years? Describe each moment.
Feel the happiness of each wonderful moment of your life. Pause and say a prayer of gratitude to the Almighty. Say to yourself… I am grateful. I am happy. Breathe in and breathe out… Take a moment to reflect.
Then on take another piece of paper write down your failures and disappointments. Write down everything that made you sad or caused your tears to fall. It may be painful to relive the hurt and each disappointment but you have to be strong enough to recall everything.
Now count the happy ones and compare it to the bad ones. Which one weighs more than the other? Compare. Did the happy moments offset the bad ones? How worst were the bad ones?
Then fold the “happy paper,” place it inside an envelope and label it with a smile. Do the same with the not so good experiences and label the envelope, “I can do better.”
Set this aside until another day. Remember to breathe in and breathe out. Simply breathe.
My next column will be the last part of this how to reset your life series. I will also share with you a simple meditation technique that will bring positivity into your life.
