Ah, love… makes the world go round, doesn’t it? It does.
I do believe that’s the reason why we wish to continue living. For without it, I find no other reason that even equals love for anyone to want to live. Life is hard as it is, and without love, it would be one dull, sad existence!
My weekend was filled with love and prayers from my family. I had a lovely time when my mom’s sisters visited Los Angeles to spend quality time with me.
It was one of those out-of-town trips, where you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to enjoy. Everyone pitched in according to what each can afford, for lodging, food and activities.
Going to San Juan Capistrano Cathedral was our main activity—to thank God for all the blessings He has given us. I would like to think I have come full circle, prayer and hope-wise. I still believe now, as I did then, that anything is possible, that every prayer can be answered alongside God’s wisdom.
Another highlight of our weekend pow-wow was the talks I had with my Titas whom we fondly call the “Yaya sisters” because they take time to take care of everyone in the family and of each other. My mom and her sister’s personal legend is to make others happy, regardless of the distance.
The happy tita-niece bonding made me feel that I will rise above and go through any turbulence in one piece, with my sanity intact. Here are some words of wisdom I learned from the “Yaya Sisters.”
Simplify your life
When you obsess about having peace of mind, simplifying your life is the only option. I can now guiltlessly weed out toxic people in my life and let go of petty people and circumstances.
Not everything is about you
I can and will go the distance to brighten a lonely person’s day and will listen relentlessly to a friend rant and rave about life. I will go out of my way to validate people.
Never say never
As the saying goes, it ain’t over till it’s over. Many times you swore not engaging on certain situations only to find yourself doing it again. It is sometimes best to keep mum about it until you are sure and not say anything with finality.
Savor experiences, moments, and people
Finally, I realized that life is good, when loving and supportive family and friends surround you. Nothing ever beats great conversations over wine and chips, or those choreographed dances you do with your family that would just make you laugh out loud. I have learned that you cannot change other people, only yourself. And when we start accepting people as they are, then we see the change because it started from us.
This is the best trip for the year so far. I will forever savor the moments of having great meals, laughing and the bonding I had with my family. This is total bliss!
