Two hours before the doors of the new 85°C Bakery Cafe was scheduled to open in Cypress, California on Friday, October 21, a line began to form, eventually wrapping around the block.
By 9 a.m., customers eagerly entered the sweet-smelling establishment and piled assortments of pastries onto their trays. In less than an hour, staff members had to begin replenishing the shelves.
An estimated 3,500 customers were anticipated just on Friday alone, with over double that amount expected by the end of the weekend.
It’s no surprise that 85°C Bakery Cafe — a Taiwan-based business with over 900 stores worldwide — continues to draw in crowds for its products that are delivered with consistent, high-quality taste.
“We have huge support from the Asian community, especially from Filipinos,” said Charles Wu, director of operations at 85°C Bakery Cafe. “In eight years here [in the U.S.], we have adopted the culture here and we know our guests here.”
Ask any loyal customer and the products that the bakery cafe is known for include the brioche, marble taro bread, cheese dog and sea salt coffee. Though, there are dozens of more options — from egg tarts to strawberry cake — that appeal to curious taste buds.
Cypress City Council officials, Stacy Berry, Jon Peat and Rob Johnson, were also present for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The Cypress location marks the eighth store opened in 2016, and the 23rd in the U.S. Two more are scheduled to open in California, bringing the total number of locations to 25 by the end of the year.
85°C Bakery Cafe is eyeing to open another 20 stores in 2017, Wu said.
Even if there may be crowds piling in the Cypress location, it’s well worth the effort for that white and red box of sweets; plus, the staff members are so efficient, that you won’t be waiting for too long from the time you pick your pastries to check out.
