LISBON, PORTUGAL – April 16, 2025 – Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala continues her strong run on the international stage, securing a spot in the Round-of-16 at the prestigious WTA 125 Oeiras Ladies Open in Portugal.
Eala defeated Dutch opponent Anouk Koevermans in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, in a match that tested her resilience. A rain delay midway through the second set saw her trailing 2-4, but the 19-year-old returned with renewed focus and captured four straight games to close out the match.
This win adds to Eala’s growing list of victories on European clay courts as she builds momentum toward her long-term goal of climbing the WTA rankings and qualifying for Grand Slam main draws.
In doubles action, Eala teamed up with American Katie Volynets, but the pair exited early after a 3-6, 4-6 loss to the fourth-seeded tandem of Christina Rosca and Carmen Corley.
Despite the doubles setback, all eyes are now on Eala’s upcoming singles match. She is scheduled to face Hungary’s Panna Udvardy in the Round-of-16 on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 9:00 AM UTC.
This translates to:
- 2:00 AM Pacific Time (U.S.)
- 5:00 AM Eastern Time (U.S.)
- 5:00 PM Philippine Time
Udvardy, a clay court specialist and former top-100 player, will present another key test for the young Filipina.
As the highest-ranked Filipina in WTA history, Eala has emerged as a beacon of pride and potential for Philippine tennis.
