The real-life sweethearts of the Philippine silver screen

AS this is Valentine’s Day weekend, I took the opportunity to write about the real-life sweethearts in Philippine showbiz today.  In the entertainment business, relationships need more than love because of the gossips and intrigues that may hound couples.  Still, the following are some of the real-life love teams that seem to have endured the trials and tribulations.

Primetime TV’s King and Queen Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera, the hottest and most popular loveteam in the Philippines since the last quarter of 2007 started their onscreen relationship via the local version of the hit Mexican series, MariMar.

Dingdong was then with singer Karylle but in 2008 they broke up, putting the attention to Marian as the cause of their separation.    Although the actress was on defensive and denied that she had to do with the break-up.  It wasn’t until 2009 that they finally admitted that they’re a couple, and have remained together since then.

Another couple staying strong despite of the controversies surrounding their relationship is Senator Chiz Escudero and actress Heart Evangelista.   The actress’ parents have been open about their disapproval with their daughter’s relationship to an older man, much less a politician but Heart stood her ground and stayed with Chiz.

A May-December relationship that kept tongues wagging is the love story of Eat Bulaga co-host and comedian Vic Sotto and actress Pauleen Luna.  The decades of difference seem not to affect them.

Other real-life sweethearts in showbusiness still going strong are Box-Office King John Lloyd Cruz and actress/TV host Angelica Panganiban, actor mateo Guidicelli and Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo, handsome actor Geoff Eigenmann and actress Carla Abellana, Star Cinema actor and Daly City born Xian Lim and actress Kim Chiu, actor Gerald Anderson and actress Maja Salvador, actor Aljur Abrenica and Kylie Padilla, Jolo Revilla (son of Sen. Bong Revilla) and Jodi Sta. Maria, actor Zanjoe Marudo and actress Bea Alonzo, Jake Ejercito and Andi Eigenmann, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo, Jericho Rosales and soon-to-be bride model Kim Jones, and Minute to Win It game show host Luis Manzano and actress Angel Locsin.
