“Songbird,” planned for theatrical release in 2027, follows the singer as she prepares for her final major solo concert.
MANILA — Regine Velasquez-Alcasid will mark four decades in music with “Songbird,” a documentary examining her career as she prepares for “FINALE,” a two-night anniversary concert in October.
Planned for theatrical release in 2027, the film is produced by iMusic Entertainment in partnership with GOAT Creative Studios. Emmy Award-winning television producer Michael Carandang wrote and directed the project.
The documentary will follow Velasquez-Alcasid’s preparations for “FINALE” while revisiting the achievements, sacrifices and experiences that shaped her career. Producers have not announced an exact release date, distributor, running time or list of theaters.
“FINALE” is scheduled for Oct. 17 and 18 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. Paolo Valenciano is the concert director, while Raul Mitra serves as musical director.
The first night is a paid performance. The second was organized as a complimentary, ticketed concert for fans. Organizers said the opening show sold out within 45 minutes and more than 50,000 people registered for the second performance.
Although “FINALE” is billed as Velasquez-Alcasid’s final major solo concert, it does not mark her retirement. Her husband, singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid, has said she intends to continue performing while stepping away from solo productions of comparable scale.
The anniversary count begins with her 1986 recording debut under the name Chona Velasquez. She later became one of the Philippines’ most prominent recording, concert and television performers.
“Songbird” will document the work behind “FINALE” while placing the concert within the broader arc of her career.
