Megastar Sharon Cuneta says goodbye to her mother, Elaine Gamboa-Cuneta

IT is with sadness that we write about the passing of Elaine Gamboa-Cuneta, the mother of Philippine Megastar Sharon Cuneta-Pangilinan and grandmother of actress KC Concepcion.  She is also the sister of veteran actress Helen Gamboa-Sotto.

Gamboa-Cuneta, fondly called “Mita” by KC, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, at the age of 79.

The wife of the late Pasay City Mayor Pablo Cuneta, Gamboa-Cuneta passed away due to internal bleeding and complications from abdominal surgery.

KC took to social media to express her grief about the passing of her grandmother.

Writing that she has lost the “love of her life,” the actress also referred to her as the “best grandma ever.”

In a tweet, KC posted:  “Hi.  I just lost the love of my life today.  My Mita will forever be the BEST GRANDMA EVER.  She will forever be with me.  I love you, my Mita.”

On Instagram, KC posted a photo of her with her grandmother saying: “I will miss you laughing this much, this way. I shared so many fun times with you that I will recreate forever. You are my sunshine, Mita,” the actress said on her Instagram post.

The Cuneta family also released the following statement:

“The family of Mrs. Elaine Gamboa Cuneta wishes to confirm the news that at 2:05pm today, November 5, 2014, she passed away due to internal bleeding and complications arising from abdominal surgery.

“Mrs. Cuneta was first confined for abdominal pains on September 2 and was in intensive care for over seven weeks.

“She was the wife of the late Mayor Pablo Cuneta.

“Her children, Chet and Michelle, Sharon and Kiko, her grandchildren—KC, Paul, Chuck, CP, Christopher, Daniel, Czarina, Lucas, Frankie, Miel, and Miguel; her siblings—Paz, Betchie and Johnny, Gilbert, Vernon and Esther, Carmela and Paquito, Helen and Tito, Edna and Jing, and Evelyn and Bong, and all their children are profoundly saddened by her passing.  Mrs. Cuneta was 79 years old and the daughter of the late Domingo Gamboa and Eusebia Albent.

“The family is deeply grateful for the outporuring of sympathy, love and prayer support during their time of grief.  They thank all the doctors and nurses who did the best they could to care for Mrs. Cuneta these past few months.

“They are comforted by their faith and the certainty that she is in a good place, in the hands of her Creator – no pain, no sickness or weakness, and seeing Jesus face to face.

“It has been a very difficult time for the family, especially for Sharon, Chet, KC, and Mrs. Cuneta’s brothers and sisters, and it is their hope that they may be allowed some privacy as they mourn the loss of the beloved Mrs. Cuneta.

“The wake will be held at the Capilla Del Senor and Capilla Dela Virgen of Santuario de San Antonio Parish, McKinley Road, Makati City from November 6 to 11, 2014.  Details of the interment will follow.”

Our condolences to the Gamboa and Cuneta families.

Former ‘90s love team Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal are back together in ABS-CBN’s new teleserye, Flor de Liza.

Directed by Wenn V. Deramas, Flor de Liza is a drama about two children.

In an interview with Boy Abunda in Aquino & Abunda Tonight last October 22, Marvin explained why he got emotional during the first day of taping.

Sinasabi ko naman lagi, ABS (-CBN) changed my life.  Talagang ang daming nangyaring maganda sa akin when ABS discovered me.  I was only 17.”

Today, aside from being an actor, Marvin is also a successful restaurateur with his friends.  He also has his twin sons, who are 9 years old.

Just like Marvin, Jolina also established her own business ventures.  In 2011, she married Rivermaya’s drummer Mark Escueta.  Just last February 14, Jolina gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

The final cast of Flor de Liza has not been confirmed to date, but we will watch out for its premiere soon!

After all the drama and brouhaha, the fight between actor Derek Ramsay and estranged wife Mary Christine Jolly is over.

For the first time, the actor shared details about the amicable settlement between him and Mary, and how he was able to see their 11-year-old son, Austin, for more than an hour.

“He said a lot of things that melted my heart, great things,” Derek said in an interview with PEP.ph.  “Di ba, alam naman natin yung sulat na he hates me?  That’s not what he said to me when we spent time together.  He’s a great kid, a smart kid.”

Derek and Mary decided to settle their issues for the sake of their son.  Mary also dropped the concubinage complaint against Derek and ex-girlfriend Angelica Panganiban.

In the interview, the actor said that he spoke to Angelica about the matter and apologized to her and her family.

Derek, who was supposed to also file adultery against his estranged wife the day of their talk to settle things, said that although he didn’t want to do it, he was pushed up on the wall.

“I have to defend myself not only for myself but for my son.”

For now, all cases against each other (and anyone who has been dragged into their drama) had been dropped.  Derek now looks forward to being able to spend more time with his son in the near future.

Basta alam ko isang araw makakasama ko ang anak ko,” he said.
